Health restrictions prohibited the Acalanes DramaDons from mounting a live production in the Spring. They ended up doing Macbeth via the Virtual Unified Space method pioneered by the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival.
To improve over the standard “Zoom Theatre,” the cast all performed in separate classroom “studios” against shared backdrops that the Stagecraft crew painted and uploaded to the digital realm. Costumes and props were all crafted as they would have been for a regular production. A tech crew composited the actors in real time over the backdrop so that it looked like they were all together in one space.
